SEATTLE – The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) advises travelers that Columbia Street will be reduced to two travel lanes between 1st and 3rd Avenues beginning Monday, December 11 until June 2018, for the Columbia St 2-way Transit Corridor Project. This work is in partnership with King County Metro in preparation to convert Columbia St from a 1-way street to a 2-way transit pathway, with 2-way operation scheduled to begin when the new waterfront tunnel opens in a few years. Work includes complete street reconstruction to accommodate buses, new signal poles, and curb line changes. This work is weather-dependent and subject to change.
From 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily beginning Monday, December 11, until June 2018, travelers can expect:
- Columbia St will be reduced to two westbound travel lanes between 1st and 3rd Avenues
- Local access will be maintained
- Pedestrian access will be maintained
- There will No Parking or Loading Zones in the work zone during construction
- Vehicles travelling on Columbia Street may experience delays near the work zone
- Some weekend closures are anticipated and notice will be given ahead of time

- Seattle Public Utilities will provide notice of temporary water shutdowns related to replacement of an existing watermain
- Construction-related noise, dust, vibration, and concrete odor
