SDOT is reminding travelers to be aware of The Michelob Ultra Seafair Pirate Run and Alaska Airlines Seafair Torchlight Parade happening this Saturday. Areas that will be impacted by these events include downtown, the Seattle Center, South Lake Union, Queen Anne and SODO neighborhoods. Please plan ahead as you travel in and around the city.
The Michelob Ultra Seafair Pirate Run occurs Saturday evening in downtown Seattle. The run will close northbound lanes of the Alaskan Way Viaduct from 5:30 p.m. to approximately 7:45 p.m. Northbound lanes of SR 99 will be closed from Royal Brougham onramp to the southern end of the Battery Street Tunnel. The 8K and 5K run will start and finish at the Seattle Center and move along the Seafair Parade route. The course travels southbound on 4th Ave, west on Seneca Street and north onto the Alaska Way Viaduct taking the Western Street exit and returns to the Center from Western to Broad Street. Races begin at 6:30 p.m. About 4,500 people are expected to participate.
Following the run, the Alaska Airlines Seafair Torchlight Parade will bring more than 150,000 spectators and cause congestion on incoming routes and city streets in the late afternoon and evening as they claim spots to sit along the parade route on 4th Ave. At approximately 6 p.m. 4th Ave will close from Broad Street to South Washington Street, thereby delaying traffic circulation downtown. The Parade begins at 7:30 p.m., and 4th Ave will reopen around 10:30 p.m. and routes out of downtown will be congested as the crowds leave the event.
