Starting tomorrow, the Columbia St 2-Way Transit Corridor Project that reached substantial completion late July, will undergo some adjustments. Final inspection of the work to prepare for future 2-way service and increased transit identified areas to refine.
9/14 Update: Crews will be breaking up concrete as of 7 AM Saturday, Sept. 15, under a noise variance. The work originally intended for Friday late afternoon was shifted, to avoid impacting weekday PM peak travel.
What you can expect:
Crews will be sealing some cracked concrete; chipping off any inadvertently splashed concrete; and replacing a small concrete road panel on the NW corner of Columbia St and 2nd Ave.
September 11 – 20 | 7 AM – 3 PM
Closure | Temporary lane closure, with traffic lane shifts.
Detour | Pedestrian detour 2-3 hours during weekend panel replacement.
Work each day will end by 3 PM, to avoid impacting the busy afternoon commute. The panel replacement concrete pour is scheduled for the weekend, when there is reduced pedestrian activity.
Making connections.
Future | Coming up next (TBD) for Columbia St is red paint, donning the newly concrete-strengthened bus-only lane.
The new 2-way future of Columbia St is not expected for some time, however, after a connection is built between it and Alaskan Way, post-Viaduct-closure.
Thank you for your patience and support throughout this project!
