SDOT is advising travelers to be aware of the following events happening around the city through the weekend that will affect area traffic. Reminder: A major motion picture will be filming on SR 99/Alaskan Way Viaduct starting Thursday. The Beyoncé concert is tonight at CenturyLink Field. The Billy Joel concert is Friday night at Safeco Field. The University District Street Fair runs Saturday and Sunday. The Seattle Sounders play Saturday night at CenturyLink Field.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 18th:
Beyoncé Concert: “The Formation World Tour” at CenturyLink Field starts at 7:30 p.m. About 50,000 people are expected to attend.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 18th – THURSDAY, MAY 19th:
Seattle Symphony Link Up Concerts: Two daily student matinee concerts at Benaroya Hall. Buses will stage on 1st and 2nd avenues between Seneca and University streets and Seneca, University and Union streets between 1st and 3rd avenues from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. About 3,500 students will attend each day.
THURSDAY, MAY 19th – THURSDAY, MAY 26th:
Motion Picture Filming: The production will film in the northbound direction of SR99/Alaskan Way Viaduct from S Atlantic St to Western Ave during off-peak hours, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Traffic will not be stopped, but there will be rolling slowdowns as filming moves along the Viaduct. The production will also film scenes concurrently in the Pioneer Square neighborhood.
FRIDAY, MAY 20th:
Billy Joel Concert: The show at Safeco Field starts at 8 p.m. About 35,000 people are expected to attend.
SATURDAY, MAY 21st:
March Against Monsanto: A march at 2:30 p.m. opposing genetically modified foods starts at Westlake Park and travels to the Gates Foundation. The route travels north on 4th Ave, east on Cedar St, north on 5th Ave. About 1,000 people are expected to participate.
South Lake Union Saturday Market: Local food and crafts street market at 9th Avenue and Denny Way. 9th Ave between Denny Way and John St closed for the market from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Saturday through September 24th.
Seattle Sounders vs. Colorado Rapids: Saturday, May 21st at 7 p.m. at CenturyLink Field. About 40,000 people are expected to attend.
SATURDAY & SUNDAY, MAY 21st & 22nd:
University District Street Fair: The annual arts, music and food fair runs Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. About 30,000 people expected to attend over the weekend.
SUNDAY, MAY 22nd:
West Seattle 5K Run & Walk: A race along Alki Beach to benefit West Seattle High School programs. The course starts at 61st Ave SW, heads eastbound on Alki Ave SW, U-turns at Anchor Park at 1157 Alki Ave SW and returns to the Alki Bath House. The race begins at 9:20 a.m. with streets reopened by 11 a.m. About 1,400 people are expected to participate.
Great Strides Seattle: A walk to benefit Cystic Fibrosis Foundation starts and finishes at Seattle Center. The walk is limited to sidewalks and trails through Myrtle Edwards Park from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. About 750 people are expected to participate.
Brooks Trailhead 10K and 15K: The run begins at 8 a.m. at Gasworks Park and goes around Lake Union. The course leaves Gasworks Park going east on N Northlake Way, continues east on the Burke Gillman trail, across the University Bridge, south on Fairview Ave E to Chesiahud Lake Union Loop Trail to the Fremont Bridge, east on N 34th to the Burke Gillman Trail and returning to Gasworks Park.
