SDOT advises travelers of construction that will close Roosevelt Way NE between NE 65th Street and Ravenna Boulevard NE this coming Monday night, May 9, in order to repave the street. Please see below for details.
- Roosevelt Way NE will be reduced to a single lane of through traffic at 6:00 p.m. on Monday night.
- The street will be completely closed to traffic beginning at 8:00 p.m.
- It will reopen Tuesday morning, May 10, by 5:00 a.m.
- Should inclement weather force a cancellation of the work, it will be shifted to the following night, Tuesday, May 10, with the same hours as outlined above.
The work is part of SDOT’s Roosevelt Way NE Paving and Safety Project, which will repave Roosevelt Way NE between NE 65th St and the south end of the University Bridge. The project, which began construction in mid-March and is expected to take 6 to 8 months to complete, will also include the construction of a protected bike lane along the west side of Roosevelt Way, the creation of in-lane bus stops to improve transit speed, the installation of curb bulbs and pedestrian islands, the upgrading of curb ramps to meet federal Americans with Disabilities Act standards, and replacement of buckled sidewalks.
The construction area has been divided into five work zones, with the requirement that work be largely complete in one before moving onto the next. The exception is the University Bridge zone which will be worked simultaneously with that in another zone. The May 9 overnight paving is the last major piece of construction in the first work zone, at which point construction will move south to the zone on Roosevelt Way NE between Ravenna Boulevard NE and NE 53rd St.
