Painting and preservation project on the SR 99 Aurora Bridge
An extended closure of the northbound sidewalk of the Aurora Bridge (SR99) begins on Jan. 18 and will last through September. WSDOT contractor crews will attach a containment system to the bridge to protect the surrounding environment from any debris generated from cleaning and painting the bridge. Tarps will be attached to the northbound sidewalk, up and over the guardrail and safety fence, and down to the work decking underneath the bridge.
With the containment system over the sidewalk, pedestrians and cyclists will not be able to use it for travel. Signed detours are posted at either side of the bridge.
For pedestrians unable to use the posted detours, ADA assistance will be provided 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Emergency phones will be posted near the detour signs to call for a vehicle pick up.
Short term closures on the southbound sidewalk
Work on the southbound sidewalk will be portable and cover a smaller area. This will allow a spotter to escort pedestrians and cyclists through the work zone safely.
