SDOT is advising travelers to be aware of several events happening around the city through the weekend that will affect area traffic. The 5th Avenue Theater production of “The Sound of Music” will perform a matinee for young students Thursday. The Seattle Jingle Bell Run and Walk will have participants jingling through downtown Sunday morning.
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 10th:
Oromo Community Rally against the Ethiopian Government: About 200 participants will march from 18thAvenue South and South Jackson Street to the downtown Federal Building. The march begins at 10 a.m. heading westbound on South Jackson Street to Fourth Avenue South, continuing on Fourth Avenue to Madison Street where the march heads east to the Henry M. Jackson Federal Building at 915 Second Avenue.
5th Avenue Theatre’s The Sound of Music: This matinee performance for students will have buses staging on First and Second avenues between Seneca and Union streets. Buses will drop off between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. and leave between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. About 2,000 people are expected to attend.
SUNDAY, DECEMBER 13th:
2015 Seattle Jingle Bell Run/Walk: A 5K run and walk to kick off the holidays benefitting the Arthritis Foundation. The race starts at Westlake Park, heads southbound on Fifth Avenue, enters the I-5 Express Lanes at Columbia Street, heads northbound to Mercer Street where the route turns southbound. The route exits at Pike Street, turns northbound on Ninth Avenue, westbound on Pine Street to the finish at Sixth Avenue and Pine Street. Streets on the route will be closed from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. About 10,500 people are expected to participate.
