SDOT is advising travelers to be aware of several events happening around the city through the weekend that will affect area traffic. The annual Figgy Pudding Caroling Competition at Westlake Center Friday is expected to draw a large number of people in addition to holiday shoppers and people commuting out of downtown, so plan to expect heavy traffic and pedestrian congestion in the area.
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 4th:
Great Figgy Pudding Street Corner Caroling Competition: The 29th annual holiday music event benefitting the Pike Place Market Senior Center and Food Bank starts at 6 p.m. on street corners in and around Westlake Center. The event closes Pine Street between 4th and 7th avenues, and 5th Avenue between Olive Way and Pike Street; streets reopen approximately 8:30 p.m. About 9,000 people are expected to attend.
SATURDAY, DEC. 5th:
Our Lady of Guadalupe Mother of the Americas Procession: The procession starts at 10:30 a.m. and ends at 12 p.m. The route starts at St. Mary’s Church at 20th Avenue S and S Weller Street, then proceeds north on 20th Avenue S, turning west onto S Jackson Street, north on 12th Avenue, east on E Cherry Street continuing to E James Way, turning north on 9th Avenue to end at St. James Cathedral.
West Seattle Hometown Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony: West Seattle kicks off the holiday season with a tree lighting celebration at Junction Plaza Park at 5:00 p.m. SW Alaska Street will close between California Avenue SW and 42nd Avenue SW from 4 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. About 770 people are expected to attend.
