Next week crews from the Seattle Department of Transportation will replace the sidewalk on the south side of South Alaska Street between 32nd Avenue South to mid-block to the west.
The crews will work from May 11 to May 19, from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. They will break out the old sidewalk, prune tree roots, evaluate the health of the trees and determine if any trees must be removed, and then replace the sidewalk.
The street will remain open to motor vehicles although traffic will be shifted slightly to the north.
Pedestrians on South Alaska Street will be detoured to the sidewalk on the opposite side of the street, crossing Alaska Street at 35th Avenue South and 31st Avenue South.
While the crews are working, bike lanes will be closed and bicyclists will merge with general traffic.
