Pedestrians and weekend stairway athletes will soon have a better walking or running experience on a rebuilt stairway on South Grand Street in Southeast Seattle. The stairway is between 28th Avenue South and Branden Place South, near the Branden Gardens Park. Crews from the Seattle Department of Transportation will close the stairway beginning Nov. 17 and it will remain closed until the project is complete, expected in December, just in time for New Year’s exercise resolutions.
The existing stairway does not meet current city standards. The new stairway will be wider with a handrail on both sides and uniform steps.
This project is part of SDOT’s program to rehabilitate stairways throughout the city.
