Full overnight closures of I-5 in south Seattle Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights
Heads up night owls! Beginning Friday, Sept. 19, to the morning of Monday, Sept. 22, both directions of I-5 between SR 599 and South Boeing Access Road will close nightly so Seattle City Light can install power lines over I-5. During the closures, drivers will follow signed detours. Be sure to plan ahead and give yourself extra time in getting to your destination. For detour information, check out our weekly update of construction closures on I-5 in King County and scroll down to I-5: Seattle City Light.
WSDOT crews will also perform electronic sign maintenance on the night of Saturday, Sept. 20. This work will reduce northbound I-5 to one right lane between South Boeing Access Road and the I-90 interchange.
SR 99 closures in downtown Seattle rescheduled
We’ve reached that time of year where fickle weather starts playing a bigger role in our construction projects. Due to expected rain tonight (Sept. 19), WSDOT will not be closing all southbound lanes of SR 99 between S. Atlantic and S. Spokane Streets as originally planned. Full southbound closures are scheduled next week for Monday and Wednesday nights, while full northbound closures are scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday nights. This work is weather dependent and is part of WSDOT’s concrete rehab project. .
Super Bowl rematch this weekend!
Remember when the Seahawks beat the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl? What was the score again? Oh yeah, 43-8. Expect similar results and heavy traffic as the teams have a rematch at 1:25 p.m. Sunday, September 21 at CenturyLink Field. While no construction work should slow things down, a sold-out stadium will so be sure to leave early, check our Seattle Traffic page and consider carpooling, public transit or other alternative transportation.
Meanwhile, the 3-0 Washington Huskies meet Georgia State at 3 p.m. Saturday at Husky Stadium. Traffic will be heavy in the Montlake area so again, consider alternative transportation. And watch for SR 520 bridge openings (there’s already one scheduled for 12:30 p.m. that day). We work with boat owners to try to schedule crossings that aren’t too close to game time, but there are no guarantees. Sign up for our free email/text alerts so you know about any 520 openings two hours ahead of time.
