Beginning the morning of Thursday, Aug. 21, drivers will notice a shift in the configuration of Mercer Street as it crosses Dexter Avenue North. Mercer Street will be shifted south to allow for demolition of the bridge over Broad Street and utility work through the intersection for approximately one year. Turning movements and the number of eastbound and westbound lanes will remain unchanged.
For increased safety, westbound Mercer Street will be restricted to one lane between Eighth Avenue North and Fifth Avenue North between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, Aug. 21 and 22, to provide space for the demolition of the bridge over Broad Street. At least one westbound lane will remain open.
SDOT advises travelers that the Washington Department of Transportation’s Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement Program will be closing portions of SR 99 from Friday night, August 22 to Wednesday morning, August 27.
- From 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22 to 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, SR 99 will be closed in both directions from the West Seattle Bridge to Valley Street. Northbound SR 99 will be open from South Royal Brougham Way until midnight on Friday, August 22 for exiting Seahawks traffic.
