The Seattle Department of Transportation will be closing the east leg of the intersection of East Jefferson Street and Broadway from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 9. The closure is for paving work associated with the First Hill Streetcar project.
Northbound and southbound traffic will be permitted on Broadway through the intersection but no turns will be allowed to eastbound East Jefferson Street. Eastbound traffic on Jefferson Street will be required to turn on Broadway and westbound traffic on East Jefferson Street will be detoured at 12th Avenue. Police officers and flaggers will be present to ensure access to businesses and residences in the area. This work is weather dependent and rain or low temperatures may cause the schedule to change.
The following detours will be provided:
Westbound traffic on East Jefferson street will be directed north on 12th Avenue to East Cherry Street, west on East Cherry Street/East James Way to Broadway then south on Broadway to Jefferson Street.
Eastbound traffic on Jefferson Street will be directed north on Broadway to East James Way Street, east on East James Way/East Cherry Street to 12th Avenue then south on 12th Avenue to East Jefferson Street.
When complete, the First Hill Streetcar Line will have ten stations along a two and one-half mile route from South Jackson Street and Occidental Avenue South to Broadway and Denny Way. The City of Seattle is developing the First Hill Streetcar in partnership with Sound Transit, with funding provided through the 2008 voter approved Sound Transit 2 (ST2) transit expansion plan.
