The Seattle Department of Transportation will be closing the intersection of East Union Street and Broadway in the Capitol Hill Neighborhood the weekend of Jan. 25-26. The closures will begin Saturday morning at 5 a.m. and continue until Sunday evening at 10 p.m. This closure is required for overhead electrical installations associated with the First Hill Streetcar project. Police officers and flaggers will be present to ensure access to businesses and residences in the area. All crosswalks and the cycle track will remain open.
The following detours will be provided (see a map at http://www.seattlestreetcar.org/firsthill.htm ):
Northbound traffic on Broadway will be directed east on Madison Street, north on 12th Avenue and west on Pike Street.
Southbound traffic on Broadway will be directed west on Pike Street, south on Boren Avenue, and east on Madison Street.
Eastbound traffic on Seneca Street will be directed south on Boren Avenue, east on Madison Street, and north on 12th Avenue.
Westbound traffic on East Union street will be directed west on Madison Street, and north on Boren Avenue.
When complete, the First Hill Streetcar Line will have ten stations along a two and one-half mile route from South Jackson Street and Occidental Avenue South to Broadway and Denny Way. The City of Seattle is developing the First Hill Streetcar in partnership with Sound Transit, with funding provided through the 2008 voter approved Sound Transit 2 (ST2) transit expansion plan.
