The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) advises travelers of the following activities within the Mercer Corridor project area:
Temporary daytime lane restrictions on Mercer Street begin Monday, January 20 for approximately two weeks
Beginning as early as Monday, January 20 and for approximately two weeks, crews will restrict Mercer Street between Third Avenue N and Fifth Avenue N during the day to accommodate lateral storm water connections beneath the roadway. During this work, travelers can expect the following impacts:
- On Monday, January 20, eastbound Mercer Street between Third Avenue N and Fifth Avenue N will be reduced to one lane during off-peak travel times between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. The right turn lane onto southbound Fifth Avenue N will also be restricted.
- On Tuesday, January 21 through Friday, January 31, eastbound Mercer Street between Third Avenue N and Fifth Avenue N will be reduced to one lane during off-peak travel times between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays, Monday through Friday. The right turn lane onto southbound Fifth Avenue N will also be restricted.
- A second eastbound lane on Mercer Street between Third Avenue N and Fifth Avenue N will be reopened for evening peak travel times to accommodate increased traffic flow.
- The right turn lane from eastbound Mercer Street onto southbound Fifth Avenue N will remain closed until approximately 7 p.m. each night. However, right turns onto southbound Fifth Avenue N from the right lane of Mercer Street will be permitted during this work.
- Travelers heading toward I-5 from Queen Anne should utilize Queen Anne Avenue N and Denny Way as alternate routes.
- Travelers should expect delays and use alternative routes where possible.
Nighttime lane restrictions on Dexter Avenue N and Mercer Street begin Tuesday, January 21 for approximately two weeks
Beginning the evening of Tuesday, January 21 and for approximately two weeks, crews will restrict Mercer Street and Dexter Avenue N to one lane in each direction to accommodate placement of a temporary signal system at the intersection of Mercer Street and Dexter Avenue N. During this work, travelers can expect the following impacts:
- Mercer Street between Fifth Avenue N and Ninth Avenue N will be restricted to one lane between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Monday through Friday.
- Dexter Avenue N between Roy Street and Republican Street will be restricted to one lane in each direction between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Monday through Friday.
- Travelers heading towards I-5 from Queen Anne should utilize Fifth Avenue N to Harrison Street and eastbound Broad Street to reconnect with Mercer Street at Ninth Avenue N.
