Work at the intersection of South Jackson Street and Second Avenue Extension will continue during the next three weekends in the Pioneer Square Neighborhood to accommodate track construction for the First Hill streetcar project. Also, as previously announced, this weekend there will be a partial intersection closure at 12th Avenue South and South Jackson Street in the Little Saigon Neighborhood.
This weekend, the intersection of South Jackson Street and Second Avenue Extension will be partially closed to traffic on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 6 a.m. until 5 p.m.; however, the intersection will remain open on Friday and Sunday.
The same travel restrictions at this intersection of South Jackson Street and Second Avenue Extension are also scheduled the following two weekends:
- Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. until Sunday, Nov. 10 at 10 p.m.
- Friday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. until Sunday, Nov. 17 at 11 a.m.
During these weekend closures at Second Avenue Extension, westbound traffic on South Jackson Street will be required to turn north on Fourth Avenue South; southeast bound traffic on Second Avenue Extension will be required to turn south at Third Avenue South; and northbound traffic on Fourth Avenue South will not be permitted to turn west on Second Avenue Extension. However, eastbound traffic on South Jackson Street will be permitted to continue through the Second Avenue Extension intersection.
The following detours will be provided:
Southeast bound traffic on Second Avenue Extension will be directed south on Third Avenue South to South Jackson Street, and then east on South Jackson Street to return to Second Avenue Extension.
Northbound traffic on Fourth Avenue intending to travel northwest on Second Avenue Extension will be directed North on Fourth Avenue South to Prefontaine Place South, then Northwest on Prefontaine Place South to Yesler Way, and then west on Yesler Way to return to Second Avenue Extension.
Westbound traffic on South Jackson Street will be directed north on Fourth Avenue South to Prefontaine Place South, then northwest on Prefontaine Place South to Yesler Way, west on Yesler Way to First Avenue South, and south on First Avenue South to return to South Jackson Street.
When complete, the First Hill Streetcar Line will have ten stations along a two and one-half mile route from South Jackson Street and Occidental Avenue South to Broadway and Denny Way. The City of Seattle is developing the First Hill Streetcar in partnership with Sound Transit, with funding provided through the 2008 voter approved Sound Transit 2 (ST2) transit expansion plan.
