The contractor working for the Seattle Department of Transportation on the First Hill Streetcar project plans to close lanes on South Dearborn Street at Eighth Avenue South (just west of I-5) from Thursday, Sept. 19, until Saturday, Oct. 5, as needed for construction. Traffic may be reduced to two lanes westbound and one lane eastbound during daytime working hours. Traffic may be reduced to one travel lane in each direction during nights and weekends. These lane reductions will be in place to accommodate construction of the spur line track linking the First Hill Streetcar’s maintenance facility with the main line on South Jackson Street.
When complete, the First Hill Streetcar Line will have ten stations along a two and one-half mile route from South Jackson Street and Occidental Avenue South to Broadway and Denny Way. The City of Seattle is developing the First Hill Streetcar in partnership with Sound Transit, with funding provided through the 2008 voter approved Sound Transit 2 (ST2) transit expansion plan. Completion is planned for mid- 2014. For further information, visit the project website at http://www.seattlestreetcar.org.
