Patience needed in traffic; earplugs needed at Seahawks game
Get ready for an exciting weekend of events coming up. On Friday night at CenturyLink Field, there’ll be 50,000 cheering Sounders devotees at the match taking on the Real Salt Lake. Sunday night at the CLink, an expected 65,000 deafening Seahawks fans will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the loudest stadium as they root on the team at the much-awaited game against the 49ers. Also, at the Seattle Center on Saturday night, the Storm will blow into the Key Arena for a fast-paced game against the Tulsa Shock. If boats get your heart racing, there’s three days to enjoy the Seattle Boats Afloat Show at Chandler’s Cove on South Lake Union. If you prefer land to water, there’s the annual car show in the West Seattle Junction and plenty of local fun with church and community festivals in Wallingford, on Capitol Hill, and in South Park.
If you’re driving, you do need to plan ahead for traffic congestion associated with the events and two major construction projects – the closure of the SR 520 from Montlake Boulevard to I-405 and lanes northbound on I-5 between Olive Way and Lakeview Boulevard. This could be a good weekend to try out one of the many alternate modes of transportation – Metro Transit, the West Seattle Water Taxi, the Seattle Streetcar, the Sounder commuter train, Link light rail, car pool, bicycle or walk, if feasible. For more event and traffic information please see the following schedule.
