Starting today one southbound traffic lane on Aurora Avenue N between N 67th and N 65th streets will be closed to traffic during non-peak travel hours for sidewalk improvement work. The closure is expected to last until the end of September and will allow SDOT’s contractor to construct new curb and sidewalk on the west side of Aurora Avenue N. Two southbound lanes will remain open to traffic. Pedestrian detours will be signed for access around the construction site.
SDOT is also building a new sidewalk and making other pedestrian improvements on the west side of Aurora Avenue N approaching and also at the intersection with N 66th Street. To construct these improvements, the N 66th Street exit off of Aurora Ave N will be closed. A separate traffic advisory will be issued when the closure date has been set.
These improvements will support Metro’s RapidRide E Line service scheduled to begin February 2014. SDOT is constructing pedestrian improvements to help people access RapidRide stops and installing Business Access and Transit (BAT) lanes, adding signal priority for Metro buses and retiming corridor traffic signals to support the route.
