Motorists should plan ahead to avoid delays
Tomorrow the Bite of Seattle begins its three-day food-fest drawing in over 40,000 folks a day at the Seattle Center. During the afternoon commute, fans of Paul McCartney will be flocking from all over the Northwest to Safeco Field for the sold-out 8 p.m. concert. Motorists not attending the concert may, nevertheless, be impacted by the out-of-towners heading into the SODO area via I-90, I-5 and Highway 99. It could make for a dicey afternoon commute for everyone.
In addition to the Bite, there are numerous Seafair events on Saturday and Sunday which are expected to be attended by crowds in the thousands. Those events include the West Seattle Grand Parade, the beautiful two-day Japanese Bon Odori Festival and the exciting evening Chinatown Parade. Sports enthusiasts will also have their pick of events to choose from on Saturday with the Fat Water Open Water Swim in Lake Washington, the Float Dodger 5K in West Seattle, the Seattle Sounders match against the Colorado Rapid; and the Refuse to Abuse 5K around Safeco Field. On Sunday morning the Seafair Triathlon takes place in and around Lake Washington while the 2013 Seafair Swedish SummerRun and Walk gets underway on First Hill.
Motorists should plan ahead for possible delays associated with all the activities taking place over the next three days. The Seattle Department of Transportation suggests that a weekend like the coming one might be a great time to leave the stress of driving the car at home and try out one of the many alternate modes of travel available such as the Sounder, the West Seattle Water Taxi, Sound Transit Link light rail, Metro Transit, the Streetcar, the Monorail or perhaps carpool, bicycle or walk, if feasible.
