Seattle drivers should prepare for bridge opening delays this evening as a State Route 520 bridge pontoon travels from Lake Washington through the Lake Washington Ship Canal to Elliott Bay.
The pontoon, “Pontoon W,” will leave Lake Washington at approximately 6 p.m. It will be towed by tugboats “Westrac” and “West Point” and travel westward through the Ship Canal, requiring openings of the Montlake Bridge, the University Bridge, the Fremont Bridge and the Ballard Bridge. Pontoon tracking details are posted on the SR 520 Pontoon Tracking Web page.
The pontoon is expected to reach the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks at approximately 9 p.m. and Elliott Bay later this evening. The Locks close at 9 p.m.
Pontoon W will be moored temporarily at Harbor Island until Wednesday, July 17 when it moves into a Vigor-owned drydock for repairs.
