Broadway will be closed to through traffic between Denny Way and East Pine Street in the Capitol Hill neighborhood on the weekend of July 20 while crews excavate and repave the roadway in this area. The street will be closed from Saturday, July 20 at 6 a.m. until Sunday, July 21 at 10:00 p.m.
A signed detour will be in place directing northbound traffic on Broadway to travel east on East Pine Street, north on 12th Avenue, then west on East John Street to Broadway. Southbound traffic on Broadway will be directed to travel west on East Denny Way, southwest on East Olive Way, south on Bellevue Avenue, then east on East Pine Street to Broadway. Broadway will remain open for local access between East Pine Street and East Howell Street. Pedestrian access and access to businesses will be maintained.
This work is being performed as part of the First Hill Streetcar project. The First Hill Streetcar line will have ten stations along a two and one-half mile route from South Jackson Street and Occidental Avenue South to Broadway and Denny Way. The City of Seattle is developing the First Hill Streetcar in partnership with Sound Transit, with funding provided through the 2008 voter approved Sound Transit 2 (ST2) transit expansion plan. Completion is planned for mid- 2014. For further information, visit the project Website at www.seattlestreetcar.org.
