The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) will close the intersection of Lake City Way Northeast and Northeast 125th Street on July 11 for grinding down the asphalt prior to repaving. The closure will run from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. and detours will be in place to guide motorists around the closure. A similar closure is scheduled for the night of July 18th to repave the intersection, but this date is weather dependent.
This work is part of the Northeast 125th Street /Sand Point Way Northeast Repaving Project, which began in early June. Nearly five miles of asphalt roadway will be repaved, providing a smoother, safer ride for all users. In addition, 85 curb ramps will be updated or installed to improve the pedestrian experience and meet current accessibility standards, two new bus shelters will be constructed, and three bio-retention structures will be added to the stormwater system.
The $3 million project, funded primarily by the “Bridging the Gap” transportation levy approved by Seattle voters in November 2006, was awarded $1 million in federal funds.
