The southbound lane of 12th Avenue South will be closed to through traffic between Boren Avenue South and South Jackson Street in the Little Saigon Neighborhood this weekend, from Saturday, June 22 at 11 a.m. until Monday, June 24 at 5 a.m. A contractor working for the Seattle Department of Transportation is reconstructing parts of South Jackson Street between Fifth Avenue South and 14th Avenue South for the First Hill Streetcar project, and the closure on 12th Avenue South is required for this work.
A signed detour will be in place directing through traffic on southbound 12th Avenue South to travel southeast on Boren Avenue South to South Jackson Street, then west on South Jackson Street to 12th Avenue South. There will be no restrictions to east-and westbound traffic on South Jackson Street and northbound traffic on 12th Avenue South through South Jackson Street will be permitted. Also, local traffic southbound between Boren Avenue South and South Jackson Street, pedestrian access and access to businesses will be maintained.
When complete, the First Hill Streetcar line will have ten stations along a two and one-half mile route from South Jackson Street and Occidental Avenue South to Broadway and Denny Way. The City of Seattle is developing the First Hill Streetcar in partnership with Sound Transit, with funding provided through the 2008 voter approved Sound Transit 2 (ST2) transit expansion plan. Completion is planned for mid- 2014. For further information, visit the project Website at www.seattlestreetcar.org.
