Several intersections will be partially closed on South Jackson Street in Pioneer Square and the Chinatown/International District during the month of June, restricting north- and southbound traffic at these locations. A contractor working for the Seattle Department of Transportation is constructing streetcar tracks for the First Hill Streetcar down the center of South Jackson Street and reconstructing parts of the roadway.
From June 1 until June 28, Sixth Avenue South is closed to through traffic at South Jackson Street. Right turns are permitted from north- and southbound Sixth Avenue South to South Jackson Street as well as from east- and westbound South Jackson Street to Sixth Avenue South.
From June 7 until June 12, the south leg of the Occidental Avenue South and South Jackson Street intersection will be closed to traffic.
From June 8 until July 3, Maynard Avenue South will be closed to through traffic at South Jackson Street. Right turns will be permitted from north- and southbound Maynard Avenue South to South Jackson Street as well as from east- and westbound South Jackson Street to Maynard Avenue South.
From June 17 until June 20, the south leg of the Second Avenue South and South Jackson Street intersection will be closed to traffic.
Advance warning signage will be displayed to assist drivers traveling through these intersections, and local access, pedestrian access, and access to businesses will be maintained.
When complete, the First Hill Streetcar line will have ten stations along a two and one-half mile route, from South Jackson Street and Occidental Avenue South to Broadway and Denny Way. The City of Seattle is developing the First Hill Streetcar in partnership with Sound Transit, with funding provided through the 2008 voter approved Sound Transit 2 (ST2) transit expansion plan. Completion is planned for mid- 2014. For further information, visit the project Website at www.seattlestreetcar.org.
