Early work in support of upcoming Elliott Bay Seawall construction is continuing, and in order to ensure the most disruptive work is completed by Memorial Day, the Seattle Department of Transportation advises travelers that all lanes of Alaskan Way will be closed between Virginia and Pike streets from 7 p.m. Friday, April 26, through 5 a.m. Monday, April 29.
This closure will enable the project to safely and efficiently complete the most disruptive early work prior to Memorial Day weekend, including new utility infrastructure and utility relocations.
Detour routes will be posed and will utilize Second Avenue for southbound traffic and First Avenue for northbound traffic. During the closure, local access to residences, businesses and parking areas will be maintained, as will pedestrian access on the sidewalk adjacent to work zones.
The Elliott Bay Seawall Project will replace the existing seawall with a structure that meets current safety and design standards. It will be the foundation of the current and future waterfront, supporting and protecting major utilities, including power, regional telecommunications, gas, sewer and water; SR 99; the BNSF railway; as well as the future features of the Waterfront Seattle Program.
