Beginning Saturday, March 30 the south leg of the intersection of South Jackson Street and Maynard Avenue South in the Chinatown/International District will be closed to traffic to facilitate construction of the First Hill Streetcar. The closure will be in place 24 hours per day and will reopen the morning of April 6. Jackson will be open to east- and westbound traffic but southbound turns to Maynard Avenue S will not be permitted. Local access, pedestrian access, and access to businesses will be maintained during this work.
The First Hill Streetcar project is replacing the curbside roadway on both the north and south side of South Jackson Street between 5th and 14th avenues. This will provide a new concrete roadway and eliminate the asphalt patches created by the new water line and gas line installations in the Chinatown/International District and Little Saigon.
The City of Seattle is developing the First Hill Streetcar in partnership with Sound Transit, with funding provided through the 2008 voter approved Sound Transit 2 (ST2) transit expansion plan. Completion is planned for spring 2014.
