The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) will close the University Bridge to vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic this weekend, March 23-24, to repair damage sustained in an earlier marine accident. The bridge will be closed Saturday and Sunday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day. On Sunday, if the work is completed early, the bridge will open early. The bridge will remain open to marine traffic.
During the closures, motorists will be detoured to either the Montlake or I-5 bridges, while bicyclists and pedestrians will be detoured to the Montlake Bridge.
The work requires the bridge to be in the raised position. The crews will be working under the bridge, driving piles and repairing the north fender.
Taking advantage of the closure on Saturday, March 23, SDOT will also work on the southbound on-ramp to the bridge coming off Campus Parkway between NE 40th and Ninth Avenue NE. The work will begin at 7 a.m. and wrap up by 5 p.m.
