Beginning Monday, March 4, East Yesler Way between Broadway and Boren Avenue in the Yesler Terrace neighborhood will be closed to through traffic for approximately four weeks to facilitate construction of the First Hill Streetcar. The closure will begin at 7 a.m. on Monday, March 4 and will continue until Thursday, April 4.
Through traffic will follow detour signs around the closure:
- Eastbound Yesler traffic will utilize Broadway, East Jefferson Street and 12th Avenue.
- Westbound Yesler traffic will utilize 12th Avenue, East Jefferson Street, and Broadway
- Travel from north- or southbound Boren to westbound Yesler will utilize East Yesler Way, 12th Avenue, East Jefferson Street and Broadway
Additionally, 10th Avenue South on the south side of East Yesler Way (within Yesler Terrace Housing) will be temporarily accessible via 12th Avenue South and South Washington Street for the duration of this road closure.
Future road closures scheduled in the Yesler Terrace neighborhood include the closure of the intersection of Boren Avenue and East Yesler Way on the weekends of March 15-17, 22-24, and 29-31.
Local access, pedestrian access, and access to businesses will be maintained during this work.

The City of Seattle is developing the First Hill Streetcar in partnership with Sound Transit, with funding provided through the 2008 voter approved Sound Transit 2 (ST2) transit expansion plan. Completion is planned for spring 2014.
