Work to install a new street light and signal system at the intersection of Northeast Northgate Way and Fifth Avenue Northeast will continue next month. Previously anticipated to wrap up in late January, the intersection and pedestrian improvements project is now expected to be complete by the end of February. The schedule shifted due to limited availability of key staff and postponed delivery of critical signal equipment.
Once the new signal and street light system are installed, the contractor will remove the existing signal system and pour concrete for sidewalks around the new poles at each corner of the intersection. This work requires dry weather and temperatures above 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
Crews will maintain one lane of travel and one left turn lane in each direction through the intersection during the weekday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. work hours. Outside of those work hours all lanes of travel will be open.
The majority of the Northeast Northgate Way & 5th Avenue Northeast Intersection and Pedestrian Improvements Project was complete in November of 2012, awaiting delivery of signal parts to finish signal and street lighting elements.
