Starting tomorrow (Tuesday), Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) crews will be working in the intersection of three streets: South Bailey Street, 13th Avenue South, and Stanley Avenue South, just off of Airport Way South. The crews expect to complete this work by the end of the week.
The island in the middle of this irregularly shaped intersection will be replaced with a smaller island, and a new island will be installed in the crosswalk area of the north side (13th Avenue S) of the intersection. The islands are designed to enhance pedestrian safety and to make turning movements of large trucks easier at this location.
One of the northbound lanes of Stanley Avenue South will be closed at times with traffic diverted around the work area. Drivers should slow down at the intersection and proceed with caution, especially when workers are present. Drivers may encounter congestion and should allow extra time.
