(Please note: The next and final closure for this project is now tentatively scheduled for the weekend of Sept 20-23)
The second of three two-day closures on Lake Washington Boulevard through the Washington Park Arboretum will take place the weekend of August 10-12 to allow crews to install streetlights, construct pedestrian and bicycle improvements, and conduct landscape and drainage maintenance. The street will be closed from 7 p.m. on Friday, August 10 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, August 12. The closure is scheduled to coincide with the closure of the SR 520 Bridge.
Park and boulevard users, including bicyclists and pedestrians, should anticipate closures from Foster Island Road on the north end, to Arboretum Drive on the south end of the park. During the closures, access to the Seattle Japanese Garden parking lot will be available from the south end of Lake Washington Boulevard East. Access to the Graham Visitor’s Center and the north end of the Arboretum will be provided from the north end of Lake Washington Boulevard East from Foster Island Drive.
The work to be completed during this closure includes:
- Construction of a raised crosswalk and speed cushions, funded by WSDOT
- Installation of bicycle sharrows
- Crosswalk installation/improvements
- Streetlight installation and/or removal of the old system
- Tree trimming and landscape maintenance
- Drainage maintenance
The final closure is tentatively scheduled for September 20-23, from Saturday morning through Sunday evening, once again to coincide with a scheduled 520 Bridge closure.
Improvements by Seattle Parks and Recreation, University of Washington, Seattle City Light, and Seattle Department of Transportation are being coordinated to maximize project efficiencies and to minimize closure times.
