The 62nd Annual Greenwood Seafair Parade gets under way tonight, Wednesday, July 25, 6 p.m. and is expected to attract a crowd of up to 10,000. Playing upon the theme of “Wonderful Wild Greenwood,” Meerkute the Meerkat from the Woodland Park Zoo will serve as Grand Marshall for the event which is the oldest neighborhood Seafair parade in the region. The staging area of Greenwood Avenue N between N 105th and N 95th streets will close to traffic at 4:00 p.m.
The parade begins at Greenwood Avenue N and N 95th Street heading south on Greenwood Avenue N to N 85th Street, then moves west on N 85th Street to Sixth Avenue NW where the participants will disperse to the north and south. The parade activities will wrap up around 8:30 p.m. The parade route, Greenwood from N 95th to N 85th streets and 85th to Sixth Avenue, will be closed from 6 p.m. to approximately 8:30 p.m. The Seattle Department of Transportation advises motorists to plan on traffic congestion throughout the area for the much of the evening.
