The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) will resurface 400 feet of the University Bridge this weekend on Saturday and Sunday, July 21 and 22. Both days the bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic from 4 a.m. to midnight, but will remain open to pedestrians and bicyclists who will be directed to cross on the most accessible sidewalk. The bridge will also continue to open for marine traffic.
The closure is required in order to remove and replace the asphalt surface north from the movable mid-section of the bridge. The paving project is part of SDOT’s annual Arterial Major Maintenance program. In order to maximize the closure, Roadway Structures crews will use this closure to do spot sidewalk work, inspect the concrete portion of the bridge deck, and carry out minor maintenance on the section south of the bridge mid-span.
In addition to detour signage at NE 42 Street, Fuhrman Avenue E, and NE Pacific Street, Seattle Police Officers will be on hand to assist motorists around the closure via the Montlake Bridge.
