Work will be underway in the Washington Park Arboretum on three weekends between July and September 2012 to provide safety and landscaping improvements along Lake Washington Boulevard. Park and boulevard users should anticipate closures fromFoster Island Roadon the north end toArboretum Driveon the south end of the park.
City departments and state agencies are partnering with the Arboretum to complete the following work over these three weekends: a New Zealand Garden installation; spot paving along Lake Washington Boulevard; traffic calming; bicycle sharrows; streetlight replacement; tree trimming and landscape maintenance; as well as crosswalk improvements, signage, and other pedestrian enhancements. This work is being coordinated and funded bySeattleParksand Recreation, Seattle City Light, Seattle Department of Transportation, Washington State Department of Transportation, andUniversityofWashington.
To minimize disruptions,Lake Washington Boulevardwill be closed in conjunction with SR 520 bridge closures, to the extent feasible. At this time,Lake Washington Boulevardclosures are expected to occur on the following dates:
- July 15-16: Sunday morningthrough Monday evening
- August 10-13: Friday at 7:00 p.m. through Monday morning
- September 8-9: Saturday morning through Sunday evening
During the closures, access to theJapaneseGardenparking lot will be available from the south end ofLake Washington Boulevard. Access to the Graham Visitor’s Center and the north end of the Arboretum will be provided from the north end ofLake Washington Boulevard EfromFoster Island Drive.
Washington Park Arboretum safety and landscape improvements continue to support and enrich the Park’s Master Plan goals of education, conservation, providing recreation and visitor services, and rehabilitation of the Arboretum infrastructure for generations to come.
