Crews working for the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) are scheduled to begin making street improvements to a two block section of Terry Avenue N between Mercer and Harrison streets in South Lake Union this coming Monday, April 16. Concrete pavers will be installed on top of a new road base, adjacent to the South Lake Union Streetcar stop at Mercer, and midblock between Harrison and Republican Streets. Construction of these two mid-block areas is expected to be completed by the end of May. Work on a third block, between Harrison and Thomas streets, will follow.
The streetcar and streetcar stops will remain operational throughout project construction, and sidewalks on both sides of the street and all east/west streets will also remain open. However, while under construction, each block will be closed to vehicular traffic around the clock seven days a week, and on-street parking will be unavailable.
Construction activity will begin with nighttime work (5 p.m. to 7 a.m.) for excavation and removal of existing pavement. Reconstruction of the street will then occur during daytime work hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Construction crews will work Monday through Thursday. There currently is no construction scheduled for Fridays or weekends.
