The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) will host the second of two open houses this Wednesday, March 7, for the public to learn about the upcoming construction of the First Hill Streetcar. The open house will be held 4 – 7 p.m. in the Silver Cloud Hotel’s Broadway Room. The hotel is located at 1100 Broadway, just north of E Madison Street. The location is transit accessible and on- and off-street parking is available nearby. There is also a limited amount of free parking at the Silver Cloud Hotel.
The open house will be an opportunity to find out about construction impacts and how to stay informed of project progress, meet the project team, and learn about the route and stop locations. Construction is slated to begin in April.
Like the first open house held last week, the meeting will have an open house format. There will be no formal presentation and individuals should feel free to drop by at any time between 4 and 7 p.m.
The First Hill Streetcar will be an important link to the regional transit system. It will connect the neighborhoods of Capitol Hill, First Hill, Yesler Terrace, the Central Area, Chinatown/International District, and Pioneer Square, and will serve major employment hubs (Harborview, Swedish, and Virginia Mason medical centers), institutions of higher learning (Seattle University and Seattle Central Community College), and sport venues (Century Link and Safeco fields).
The City of Seattle is developing the First Hill Streetcar through a partnership with Sound Transit, with funding provided through the 2008 voter approved Sound Transit 2 (ST2) transit expansion plan.
