The contractor painting the Ballard Bridge for the Seattle Department of Transportation is continuing work on the north bascule leaf of the bridge (the north side of the two parts of the bridge that open for marine traffic) throughout February. No further northbound lane closures are anticipated until the last week of February when the contractor will move to work under the other end of the bridge. To provide access to the bridge for the contractor, the sidewalk on the northbound (east) side of the bridge will remain closed on weekdays between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m., but will remain open nights and weekends, for the duration of the project (through April).
The contractor plans to begin nighttime closures of the southbound (western) outside lane and sidewalk toward the end of February, from 6:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. During this time they will paint steel trusses above the driving deck. No daytime closures of the southbound lane or west sidewalk of the bridge are expected throughout the project.
A sidewalk on at least one side of the bridge will remain open at all times.
Please note: At times during this project the workers cannot be observed working on the bridge deck because much of the work is out of view, under the bridge.
