SDOT’s Roadway Structures crews are making repairs to the historic Cowen Park Bridge this week. They are closing the southbound, right lane, working from 9 a.m. to 3 p. m. They plan to continue this week, skip a week, and then return to work at the bridge again from January 17 to January 20.
The crews are repairing concrete spalls on the underside of the bridge using a large piece of equipment called a “UBIT” (“under bridge inspection truck”). An arm on the UBIT swings under the bridge, enabling the crews to reach the area needing repairs. (See photos of the UBIT at work at http://www.seattle.gov/transportation/bridgeinfo.htm
The Cowen Park Bridge is on 15th Avenue NE, crossing a ravine between NE 62 Street and Cowen Place NE.
This work is subject to change in the event crews are called to perform other unplanned emergency work.
