The start time for the previously announced overnight closures for both northbound and southbound traffic on East Marginal Way at S Spokane Street will be 9 p.m. tonight and tomorrow, December 14 and 15. The closures for work on the Spokane Street Viaduct Widening Project, which will continue until 5 a.m. the following morning, had previously been scheduled to begin at 11 p.m.
These overnight closures of East Marginal Way are necessary to set steel girders over the roadway and to then attach the form work required to complete the roadway deck above.
Another scheduling change relates to the nighttime closure of the intersection of First Avenue S and S Spokane Street, which will be closed nightly Monday, December 19, through Thursday, December 22. The intersection will close at 9 p.m. each night and reopen the following morning at 5 a.m. The closures had previously been scheduled to begin on Friday, December 16.
The overnight closures of the First Avenue S and S Spokane Street intersection will permit the contractor working for the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) to install the steel girders that will support the new combined westbound on- and off-ramp at the intersection.
