Commuters should plan around events, expect travel delays
Occupy Seattle protests combined with a Monday evening football game have the potential for creating major traffic issues this afternoon on roads and highways in the area south of downtown. Commuters should expect travel delays and allow additional time for detouring to other routes.
Monday’s afternoon commute will be heavier than usual as the Seattle Seahawks take on the Saint Louis Rams at 5:30 p.m., bringing 67,000 fans to CenturyLink Field in the SODO district. Also, as part of West Coast port demonstrations, Occupy Seattle is using city streets this afternoon to march to demonstration sites outside of port facilities. Seattle Police Officers will be on hand to minimize congestion but the blockage of any major roadway could create significant traffic problems.
The protests could also be disruptive to transit service this afternoon. For information or questions about transit service, please call Metro Transit customer service at 206-553-3000, and sign up to receive Transit Alerts at www.kingcounty.gov/metro/alerts.
