The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) advises travelers that southbound Westlake Avenue N travelers will experience a temporary one block reroute to 9th Avenue N just south of Aloha Street during weeknights beginning Monday, May 16. From 9th Avenue N travelers can turn left onto Broad Street to return to southbound Westlake Avenue N. Northbound traffic will continue on Westlake Ave. N. This night work will take approximately one week to complete and work hours are anticipated to be 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
This unanticipated night work accommodates a larger work area in Westlake Ave. N for crews installing stormwater drainage facilities as part of Mercer Corridor Project utility upgrades. During catch basin and pipe installation this week crews attempted to avoid further impacts to traffic in the area by working in a limited construction zone. It has been determined that a slighty larger work area is needed to efficiently install the stormwater drainage system.
