The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) plans to restrict vehicles transporting flammable materials from using I-90, both east and westbound, for the next two Saturdays, February 5 and February 12, while crews test the fire suppression system.
Please note that on Saturday, February 5, SR 520 will not be available for an alternate route for eastbound traffic, and on Saturday, February 12, SR 520 will not be available for an alternate route for westbound traffic.
On Saturday, February 5, WSDOT plans to close the mainline of westbound I-90 from the Mercer Island Lid to the Mount Baker Tunnel to all traffic from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. Westbound traffic will use the reversible express lanes to cross Lake Washington (except not for the transport of flammable materials). WSDOT will also close all lanes of eastbound SR 520 from Montlake Boulevard to 92nd Avenue NE from midnight to 7:30 a.m. to install tolling equipment.
On Saturday, February 12, WSDOT plans to close the mainline of eastbound I-90 from the Mount Baker Tunnel to the Mercer Island Lid from 11:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. to test the fire suppression system. Eastbound traffic will use the reversible express lanes to cross Lake Washington (except not for the transport of flammable materials). WSDOT will also close all lanes of westbound SR 520 from 92nd Avenue NE to Montlake Boulevard from midnight to 7:30 a.m. to install tolling equipment.
Drivers transporting flammable materials on westbound I-90 must exit at Island Crest Way (Exit #7) on Mercer Island. Eastbound drivers transporting flammable materials must exit at Rainier Avenue South (Exit #3) in Seattle.
