CWork continues this week on bus travel improvements along Rainier Avenue South. SDOT’s contractor is currently working at two locations on Rainier, at South Genesee Street and at Martin Luther King, Jr. Way South. There will be lane closures and parking restrictions near these work areas.
At Martin Luther King, Jr Way South: The southbound, right turn lane on Rainier at Martin Luther King will remain closed. An additional southbound lane on Rainier will be closed for the weekend of January 22nd for a signal pole replacement and for a 48 hour period the week of January 24th to replace concrete panels in the street. Occasionally an additional lane on Rainier and/or a lane on Martin Luther King will be closed for short times. The city expects the work to be complete and all lanes reopened at this location by the end of the month.
At South Genesee Street: The southbound, curb lane of Rainier to both the north and the south of Genesee, and a portion of the sidewalk on to the west side of Rainier to the south of Genesee, will be closed. The contractor will rebuild part of the sidewalk on the west side of Rainier just south of Genesee so water will drain off the sidewalk properly. The contractor expects to complete work at this location by the end of the month. Businesses will remain open and accessible.
This Rainier Avenue South transit corridor improvement project includes new pedestrian signals, repainted crosswalks near bus stops, better street lighting, and new concrete curb and sidewalk extensions at bus load zones.
