WSDOT Traffic Advisory
Jan. 14, 2011
Drivers planning to take the State Route 99 Alaskan Way Viaduct to Seattle’s SODO neighborhood this Saturday will need to plan an alternate route. Construction work next to the viaduct’s southbound exit to First Avenue S. will require crews to close the ramp during the day.
• Saturday, Jan. 15 – The southbound SR 99 off-ramp to First Avenue S. will be closed from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Drivers heading southbound to the SODO neighborhood will need to exit SR 99 at Denny Way or Battery Street and make their way through downtown Seattle or take I-5 to SR 519.
The southbound ramp will be closed to keep travelers safe while crews hammer large steel posts into the ground a few feet away. The posts will help form the support structure for a new northbound SR 99 on-ramp at S. Royal Brougham Way.
The ramp work is part of a $476 million project t replace the seismically vulnerable Alaskan Way Viaduct between S. Holgate Street and S. King Street with a safer side by side roadway. To learn more about this project, go to www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/SR99/HolgateToKing.
