At this time (12/8/10 11:59 a.m.) a Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) crew is beginning repairs to the railing on the Alaskan Way Viaduct northbound just before the Western Avenue off-ramp. The SDOT crew will be blocking the right curb lane while it removes the concrete railing that was damaged by a collision earlier this morning. A temporary railing will be installed in that location until further work can be done. The work will be completed before the afternoon commute gets underway at 3 p.m. Motorists should expect congestion and use extra caution passing by the work zone approaching the Western off-ramp.
