A contractor working for the Seattle Department of Transportation plans to begin work at S Kenny Street on the west side of Rainier Avenue S later this week, possibly as early as Wednesday, November 3. This work is part of the transit improvement project underway at multiple locations on Rainier Avenue S and S Jackson Street for Bus Route #7.
The southbound, curb lane of Rainier Avenue S will be closed approaching Kenny, and on-street parking will be restricted. Kenny Street will be closed to eastbound traffic at Rainier. As at other project locations on Rainier, the lane closures and parking restrictions at Rainier and Kenny will be in effect 24 hours a day and seven days a week for six to eight weeks.
This transit improvement project covers the more than six-mile length of Bus Route #7 through Southeast Seattle from the International District to the Rainier Beach neighborhood. The work includes installing new bus bulbs, improving sidewalks and passenger waiting areas, and modifying traffic signals at multiple locations to improve waiting areas for bus passengers and to reduce bus travel times.
The entire project, which began in July, is scheduled for completion in January. Due to weather conditions, some minor work may need to wait until early spring for completion.
Local businesses are open during construction and SDOT encourages the community to stop and shop.
