Seattle drivers should plan ahead for sports and spooks this Halloween weekend. Thousands of fans will attend Huskies and Sounders games. Halloween festivities affecting traffic will be held in Magnolia, Capitol Hill, and Fremont. Motorists are asked to be extra cautious of celebrants of all sizes on neighborhood streets throughout the city in the evenings. If possible, leave the car at home and take public transportation to events.
Friday, October 29
Husky Band Friday Night Rally and Procession: Husky band and supporters will follow a procession through Greek Row prior to Saturday’s game. Approximately 600 participants are expected.
Magnolia Village Halloween Trick or Treat: This Magnolia community event will close West McGraw Street between 34th Avenue West and 32nd Avenue West from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Attendance is estimated at 1,000.
Saturday, October 30
Rally to Restore Sanity—Seattle: Drivers should expect congestion around Westlake Park for this rally that will run from 9 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with an estimated attendance of 5,000.
Husky Football: The University of Washington Huskies will play Stanford starting at 4 p.m. with an estimated 67,000 fans traveling to and from Husky stadium. The usual traffic plan will be in effect in the University area.
Halloween on Broadway Parade: A parade will start at the Seattle Central Community College at 7 p.m. The procession will head north on Broadway and disperse into a haunted house on East Republican Street. An estimated 500 people will participate.
Sunday, October 31
Trolloween 2010: An estimated 400 participants will parade through the Fremont neighborhood, starting at the Fremont Troll and ending under the Fremont Bridge. The Haunt of Fremont will start at North 36th Street and Troll Avenue North at 7:45 p.m., head west on 36th to Evanston Avenue North, south on Evanston to North 35th Street, west on 35th to Phinney Avenue North, south on Phinney to North 34th, east on 34th to Evanston, south on Evanston to a private street, and then east to the Fremont Bridge. The event will end by 11 p.m. North 36th Street adjacent to the Troll will be closed between Linden Avenue North and Whitman Avenue North from approximately 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Officer Timothy Brenton Memorial Ceremony: The Seattle Police Department will hold a dedication memorial ceremony at the site of Officer Brenton’s murder, at 29th Avenue and East Yesler Way. During the ceremony from 3 to 3:30 p.m. the surrounding street will be closed. An estimated 540 people will attend.
The Sounders will play LA Galaxy at Qwest Field starting at 5 p.m. Attendance is estimated at 40,000.
