The weather may be summer-likeover the next few days, but the events lined up the coming weekend paint a fall-like picture. Tomorrow, Friday, October 1, students starting the fall quarter at the University of Washington will be welcomed by the merchants along University Way with their annual AVEnture open house and sidewalk sale. Saturday the American Heart Association holds the 2010 Puget Sound Heart Walk, and Sunday the Seattle Mariners play their final game of the season. The Seattle Department of Transportation reminds motorists to help reduce traffic congestion and pollution by taking one of the many alternate modes of transportation available – Metro Transit, the Seattle Streetcar, the Sounder commuter train, Link light rail, car pool, bicycle or walk, if feasible.

Procession route: starts at Immaculate Conception Church at 18th Avenue and E Marion Street; goes west on Marion onto Seattle University campus at 12th Avenue East. No closures, but there will likely be a rolling slowdown to accommodate the procession. Seattle Police will escort.

5K route: starts at Fifth Avenue N and Harrison Street; moves south on Fifth to Cedar Street; west on Cedar to Second Avenue; south on Second to Spring Street; u-turns at Spring and heads back north on Second to Thomas Street.
One mile route: start at Fifth Avenue N and Harrison Street; goes south on Fifth to Cedar Street; then west on Cedar to Second Avenue; north on Second to Broad Street; east on Broad to Fifth Avenue N and Thomas Street; and west on Thomas back onto the Seattle Center grounds.
