SEATTLE—On October 2 and 3, King County Metro crews will remove trolley lines on Fairview Avenue N between Harrison Street and Valley Street, resulting in intermittent lane closures on Fairview Avenue N. At least one lane in each direction will remain open at all times.
Removal of the trolley lines is necessary to accommodate utility relocation and the roadway reconfiguration of Fairview Avenue, Mercer Street and Valley Street over the next several years as part of the Mercer Corridor Project.
Work hours are from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 2, and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 3.
Travelers going to or from the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk on Saturday, October 2 may experience minimal delays as crews perform work on Fairview Avenue near the I-5 on- and off-ramps at Mercer Street.
Early announcement of this work was provided to the public on September 27.
Bus riders and residents in the area should know that all service on Metro Transit’s Route 70 will use diesel instead of trolley buses starting October 2. This will provide the flexibility to operate around the Mercer Street construction for the next three years.
The trolley lines will be re-installed after project completion in 2013.
